- GRAY: Emilie Peters Roberts, 76, of Monticello Highway, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Roberts, the daughter of the late John Lewis Peters, Sr. and Helen Elizabeth DeLamar Peters, was born on July 29, 1934, in Cochran, and had lived in Gray for the past sixty years. She was the former comptroller for River North, Inc., and was the first woman to be elected as the Mayor of the City of Gray. Mrs. Roberts also worked as the casa case worker for the Jones County Department of Family and Children Services, was also a dance instructor and worked in the financial office of the Cherry Blossom Festival. She was also a devoted member of Gray United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years: Carl Roberts of Gray; daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and Jim Leonard of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Carla and Minor Pryor of St. Simons Island; sons and daughter-in-law: Pete and Kirsten Roberts of Fayetteville and Micah Roberts of Gray; sister: Helen Poe of Macon; and by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchiildren.
