- Gray, GA- Carlton Thomas "Carl" Roberts, 84, died Sunday, August 12, 2012, in a local nursing home. The family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00am, prior to an 11:00am funeral service on Friday, August 17, 2012, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Burial will follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray. Rev. Ricky Varnell will officiate the services.
Mr. Roberts, the son of the late Arthur Napolean Roberts and Roberta Barton Roberts, was born on June 04, 1928, in Fort Valley, and had lived in Gray for most of his life. He was a direct descendent of Revolutionary War soldier Reuben Roberts of Jones County. Mr. Roberts also served his country with honor as a member of the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, South Carolina. After his military service, he returned home to work and eventually retired as the steel foreman at Georgia Steel in Macon. Mr. Roberts was a founding member and organizer of the City of Gray Volunteer Fire Department, was a Mason and was a lifetime member of Gray United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his faithful and loving wife: Emilie Peters Roberts. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and Jim Leonard of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Carla and Minor Pryor of St. Simons Island; sons and daughter-in-law: Pete and Kirsten Roberts of Fayetteville and Micah Roberts of Gray; sister in law: Helen Poe of Macon; and by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchiildren.
