Notes |
- Thomas Benjamin Jones was probably named for his father, Benjamin and his paternal grandfather, Thomas Jones. Both his mother and father died while he was still young and at 12 years of age he was placed under the guardianship of Wiley Bridges, his sister Matilda's husband. They were probably living in the house of their grandfather, Nathan Fowler, which the Jones' orphans had inherited from his after his deat hin 1817.
Thomas Jones, following the religion of his father and grandfather, became a preacher in the Primitive Baptist Church. Many of Thomas and Celia's children were born in Coweta County, GA where he was pastor of the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Sometime in late 1840 they moved to Carroll County where he was pastor at County Line Primitive Baptist Church.
Both of them lived the rest of their lives in that area and are buried in the Cooks-Jones Cemetery in Carroll County.
He wrote his will on June 1, 1880 and it was probated on Feb. 7, 1881. In his will citing his religious beliefs, he wrote "..religion I have professed and as I humbly trust enjoyed for Forty years."
His sons, John T. and William M. Jones were executors of his estate.
