- Reported age at time of death was 56 years, so evidently born about 1834. Daughter of Robert & Sarah (BAILEY) McALISTER. Sophronia McALISTER married 07 JUN 1857 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Charles W. HEWSON. Mother of at least two children.
Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 1, shows in her Section B, Lot 66: Mrs. Sophronia HUDSON [sic], born 06 APR 18??, died 29 FEB 1890?, "sister."
Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: Sophronie HOUSTON died aged 56 years of cancer; buried 26 FEB 1890 in Section 2, Lot 1199 - Sexton Abraham ODOM.
Also reported to be in Section 2, Lot 1199, is Mary L. HOUSTON [= HEWSON] (buried 22 MA 1884, aged 15 months), probably a grandchild of Sophronie and likely a daughter of her son William HEWSON who married 19 SEP 1875 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Emma BABBETT.
Autry also reports the following marked graves in her B-66: James W. DAVIS (26 JUL 1882-29 DEC 1918) & Bessie Alma (HAMBY) DAVIS (sharing one ledger grave marker, no dates for either); the Sexton's record shows them to be in Section 2, Lot 1185 1/2. Sophronia's sister Syrena Emaline McCOLLISTER married 19 SEP 1850 in Carroll County, Georgia, to Edley Jackson DAVIS. James' father Robert A. DAVIS, who married 25 NOV 1876 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Mary GRIER, is perhaps the same as William Robert DAVIS (born ca. 1855), son of Edley & Syrena. Autry also reports 1 adult-sized brick ledger and 1 child-sized brick ledger, neither bearing any identifying markings.
Lot 1199 in Section 2 was purchased 05 JAN 1881 by William BENIFIELD for $15.
Daughter Mary HEWSON married 18 MAR 1880 in Browneville, Lee County, Alabama, to David WILLIAMS [the name of Browneville was changed to Phenix City in 1889].
