 | Portchester Castle Portchester Castle is located at the northern end of Portsmouth Harbour. Probably founded in the late 11th century, Portchester was a baronial castle taken under royal control in 1154. The monarchy controlled the castle for several centuries and it was a favoured hunting lodge of King John. It was besieged and captured by the French in 1216 before permanently returning to English control shortly thereafter.

 | Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk, KG, PC, Earl Marshal (1443 – 21 May 1524), styled Earl of Surrey from 1483 to 1485 and again from 1489 to 1514, was the only son of John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk, by his first wife, Katherine Moleyns. The Duke was the grandfather of both Queen Anne Boleyn and Queen Catherine Howard and the great grandfather of Queen Elizabeth I. He served four monarchs as a soldier and statesman.

 | Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk by Hans Hobein Sir Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, 2nd Earl of Surrey, 14th Baron Segrave, 13th Baron Mowbray KG, Earl Marshal (1473 – 25 August 1554) was a prominent Tudor politician. He was uncle to Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, two wives of King Henry VIII, and played a major role in the machinations behind these relationships. After falling from favour, he was stripped of his dukedom and imprisoned in the Tower of London, avoiding execution when the king died. He was released on the accession of Queen Mary I. He aided Mary in securing her throne, setting the stage for alienation between his Catholic family and the Protestant royal line that would be continued by his great-niece, Queen Elizabeth I.
